Representing the cutting edge of technology, Tesla's Roadster (based on the Lotus Elise) buries a number of myths about the electric car in general. Concerns about driving range are not valid, as the quoted ~400km/charge appears to be quite achievable, and performance is not sedate, but spectacular, with 100km/h coming up in less than 4 seconds (the Sport is quicker with its extra torque). The caveat? You'll need deep pockets and long arms to garage it, and the fast chargers need three-phase power for a 6.5 or 3hr turn-around. Via your normal 3-pin plug it takes up to 15hrs.
