The sixth generation Volkswagen Golf hatch now has a wagon sibling with more space, more useability and surprisingly competitive pricing. With more load space - the boot takes 505 litres compared with the hatch model's 350 litres and goes up to 1495 litres with the back seats folded - and an otherwise identical interior, the Golf wagon rides on the same wheelbase but is more than 400mm longer. Engine choices include two 1.4-litre petrol engines (90kW/200Nm and 118kW/240Nm), as well as 1.6-litre (77kW/250Nm) and 2.0-litre (103kW/320Nm) turbo diesels, while transmission choices can be made between a five-speed manual and a seven-speed DSG.
